Disarming Design from Palestine /
Annelys de Vet

Saturday 15th, 3 pm

Talk (English)

Offprint 2014 reflects upon the function of creative practices in situations of conflict, and introduces: Disarming Design from Palestine, an inclusive design label that presents useful products from Palestine. The goods are developed, designed and made in the Palestinian territories by contemporary designers, artists and students in collaboration with local producers and artisans.

In this project, art and design are deployed as powerful tools that feed discussions in a community about the political, social and cultural realities.

Annelys de Vet (NL, 1974) is a designer and initiator, and heads the design department of the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam. She founded the design label in collaboration with the International Academy of Arts Palestine.

Nathalie Heinich

Saturday 15th, 4.30 pm

Talk (French)

Art sociologist Nathalie Heinich joins Offprint 2014 for a discussion revolving around the meaning and the use of contemporary art in western society.

Nathalie Heinich (FR, 1955) is research director in sociology at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique / Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris. Her research focuses on the sociology of art and culture (artistic professions, aesthetic perception, conflicts about contemporary art); the socio-anthropology of identity crisis (women’s status in fiction, survivors’ testimonies, fame…); the epistemology of social sciences (Elias, Bourdieu, the sociology of art…) and the sociology of values.
